NIWA tagging collaborator and tag supplier, Mahmood Shivji, now has Carol’s track on a dedicated webpage (link below, scroll down to the bottom left icon – a painting of a mako – then click on ‘Track shortfin mako shark migrations’, then click on the link below the image to see the track). The shark has a small satellite tag attached to its dorsal fin which has to be out of the water to transmit.
It was tagged on 22 May off Cape Brett and has been at liberty for 141 days.

The Taipa Tavern Marlin Classic was run over the weekend, only one marlin weighed in at 86.6 kg which unfortunately did not qualify. Weather conditions were not favourable so most prizes went as lucky draws. In spite of this all contestants were rewarded for there efforts and went home with either a major prize or a spot prize courtesy of Reel Rods and Shimano. The team from Taranaki will no doubt be back having won the draw for $1000 worth of 4x4 Tyres thanks to Steve Taylor Tyres.
